DescriptionSpecificationsQuestions & Answers (5)
TWSBI fountain pens are loved for their high quality and affordability, offering advanced filling mechanisms normally reserved for much more expensive fountain pens. The TWSBI ECO (short for "economical") provides the same high-quality, high-capacity piston filler as the TWSBI Diamond 580 at an even lower price. It features a sleek, transparent barrel and a hexagonal screw-on cap that can be posted securely on the back of the pen. The piston filling mechanism is easily operated by twisting the knob at the end of the barrel counter-clockwise to extend the piston, submerging the nib in ink, then screwing the knob tight to retract the piston, drawing ink into the pen straight from the bottle. There's no need for cartridges or a converter! Be careful—operating the piston while ink is in the pen will cause ink to leak out of the pen.

In keeping with their philosophy of promoting the traditional experience of using a fountain pen, TWSBI has designed this pen to be completely self-serviceable. It comes with a wrench and a vial of silicone grease you can use for at-home maintenance.

Notes:

  • Some TWSBI ECO Fountain Pens have nibs and feeds that are very difficult to remove. Attempting to remove the nib and feed forcefully may damage the feed.
  • This pen only uses bottled ink, which is not included with this pen. Check out our collection of bottled fountain pen inks here!
  • This pen may come with ink residue in the nib from being dip tested by TWSBI at the factory. As with all new fountain pens, JetPens recommends giving your TWSBI a good cleaning before you use it.

Considering the fact...

Considering the fact that this is TWSBI's least expensive pen, it certainly is a tremendous value. It is also larger than I thought it was from viewing the photographs. I'd never actually seen one until I purchased it. I will probably purchase several more, as the quality rivals my $200. pens.
The ECO is easy to fill and maintain. Considering the size of the reservoir, it provides consistent flow when full or nearly empty. It definitely has an outstanding feed. This is my "carry everywhere" pen, which hasn't leaked in the pocket or my briefcase yet.
I picked a 1.1 stub nib. It has all the quality of a good steel nib. The nib has a slightly scratchy feel when using thinner inks like some of the more colorful Pelikan products.
It prefers thicker and heavier flowing ink, like J. Herbin Anniversary products, as it is slightly drier than my Conklin.
Is it just me, or does this pen prefer a shallower writing angle that favors good penmanship?

Love this pen! So much...

Love this pen! So much so, that I lust after its sister/brother, the EF point - like everyone else, I imagine: JetPens can't keep them in stock for the demand! The "Stubbie" is a good point, nevertheless; I do calligraphy, so I don't miss the EF point too much carrying this as an "everyday" pen. It's 1.1 nib is not so boldly calligraphic that one's writing looks overdone or "too much" for daily printing, but it's quite capable of puttin' on the Ritz if called for. The piston fill, built in, no less, is a super change from using converters! So much sturdier feeling. In fact, the whole pen has a sturdy, solid, well-built feel to it that just can't be beat for the price. It feels good and authoritative in the hand & produces a very authoritative line, no hesitation, even if it's been sitting for a day. I've come to like the clear barrel - didn't think I would, but I've been won over by this pen. It has that aura of a pen you just know you're going love and use for a long time, forsaking many others, perhaps - except one of its relations, like the evanescent same in EF! TWSBI, whoever they are, rock!

Almost every pen I own is many times more expensive that the TWSBI Eco Stub, but it is just as pleasurable to write with as any of them. I'm amazed that a pen at this price can be so comfortable--a friend at a pen show offered me hers to try, and I was so pleased that I ordered one for myself. It won't win any design prizes, but it's not ugly, either. What a great starter pen, evangelist pen, gift pen, EDC pen--try it and see if you don't agree.

Love the stub nib! It had a bit too much drag (feedback?) when first used, but that has smoothed out after a week of use without any action needed on my part. I wondered whether the broader line would give me problems, but it actually makes me concentrate more on writing legibly.

I am in awe of this pen. This pen looks, feels and writes like a much more expensive pen. The stub nib is smooth and I've had no problems with hard starts or drying out. The pen feels great in my hand and is comfortable posted or not. Would be a great starter pen, but anyone would be happy to carry and use this gem.
