I would remove half a star because that red-orange pen for January just feels a
little too bright. Other than that, the color match perfectly*. I rounded up to
5 stars because this is such a useful sampler, and I really doubt there is a
better pale-burnt-orange pen with the gel consistency I'm looking for. For
January, I ended up "reusing" September's color, since it goes so well with
both.
The gelly roll pens do take longer to dry, but the "pale brown" and "fresh
green" are my favorite colors in this whole set, so it makes it easier to
forgive them. March's plum purple, July's vintage blue grey, and November's
green black were some other favorites.
All in all, this sampler has a lot of unique and fresh colors that match the
curated, detailed feel of the hobonichi brand. Independent from my daily
planner, I have had a lot of fun using these uniquely toned gel pens for
sketching. As someone who usually sticks to neutrals, I feel like these pens
have helped me cut loose and spend more time in color. Even if I lose my
hobonichi tomorrow, I see myself enjoying this medley for a long time. Great
selection!
*The sampler was out of stock when I needed it, so I bought the pens
individually, minus the red gelly roll for December, since I already had a
fitting pen for it.
